"Stillness belongs to stone. Mercy belongs to water."

The Hospice Ferry

"The upper river reveals. The lower river carries."

Deck I

The Receiving Skiff

The river-mist presses close against the wet oak hull of the barge. Here, the newly boarded survivors and the metaphysically wounded are placed into the heavy, high-backed Intake Chair. Sister Maelin stands here with wet hands, not with blood, but with the cold dampness of the river to wash away the worldly pigments and "stabilize" the mind against the swift currents.

"A person’s history is their anchor. By naming their trade—the fixatives of their dyes or the ledgers of their trade, we drive those stakes deep, holding them steady against the recycling current."

Deck II

The Mercy Deck

A peaceful, dimly lit row of cot spaces divided by gray linen curtains. The windows are left open to let the moving current sing its soothing, continuous murmur. Here lie the souls beginning to divide against themselves, anchored physically by heavy Black River-Stones placed upon their chests to absorb the friction.

"Maintain a cold, procedural focus. Panic in the patient is a symptom; panic in the Apprentice is a failure of character."

Soothe Your Division

Click to place a heavy Black River-Stone upon your chest. The deep weight will pull your split thoughts back into a single grounding resonance.

Deck III

The Bell Gallery

Apprentices stand silently in the gallery, observing the volatile. To diagnose the severity of a spiritual fracture, we count the heartbeats between a patient's physical breath and their phantom Resonant Echo. A late echo reveals a soul drifting further toward the underworld Vein.

"When you hear a sound, count the heartbeats between the breath and the echo. A one-beat lag is a tremor; three is a soul split; five means the Vein already owns them."

Perform the Echo-Lag Diagnostic

Click the center core to start the diagnostic pulse. Watch and listen. When you see/hear the secondary gray Echo Pulse, immediately click the core to record the timing!

Awaiting diagnostic activation...

Deck IV

The Lantern Hold

A quiet ward below the waterline, lit by amber and gold lantern light. Here we watch those afflicted by "The Hiding": the tragic compaction of a breaking mind trying to squirrel away mundane items to fix their disappearing reality.

"We do not judge these acts; we record the gaps they represent. Watch for the spools of blue thread, or the setting of a second plate at the table for the version of themselves they are losing."

Examine the Compartments

Click to search the shadows for the tokens of "The Hiding":

Deck V

The Veil Chamber

Lined with heavy, gray linen curtains that screen the dark river from sight to prevent Reflection Phobia. When a patient panics here, apprentices must speak exclusively in the Calm Tone: a flat, procedural voice devoid of high-frequency emotion.

"If your voice wavers, the panicked soul will follow that tremor straight into the dark."

Pacify the Air with the Calm Tone

Align your vocal resonance. Click the button to project a perfectly flat, zero-vibration harmonic wave to ground a trembling soul.

Deck VI

The Reed Chapel

The bow of the vessel the threshold. Here, as we transition into the subterranean waters of the Vein Beneath the World, the final worldly "fixatives" are stripped away. The stakes are pulled. We touch the deceased's uncovered palm, and strike the last bell.

"Ink shall stand where blood once vanished. What is faced may yet be mended."
