The docks do not rest on cedar piles; they float suspended on slow-pulsing ley-lines of gravity. Because the basalt clifftops shelter the harbor from the dry winds of the plains, the green sulfur fogs of the southern forests collect here in heavy, thick blankets. Sighted merchants hate the docks because their lanterns refuse to burn a clean amber, shifting instead to a warning violet that makes accounting ledgers impossible to read.

But for the Unseeing caravanners and the shadowless boatmen of Gideon Moss-Eye’s fleet, this misty harbor is a sanctuary. They steer their flat-hulled husk-skiffs using the low-frequency hum of the river’s quiet current. If you mean to board a vessel here, you must leave your names and your titles on the land—for when the tide begins to rise, the water remembers only what you are, and not who your father claimed to be.
