The Weavers of Chance • Navigators of the Great Tapestry • Southeastern Sea
Welcome to the Twin Currents Archipelago, a fluid maritime chain of islands. The Tide-Runners were born from the tension between Syric (The Spinner of Destiny's Design) and Aria (The Lady of Whimsical Chance). To a Tide-Runner, the universe is an immense, living tapestry. The vertical warp threads are the unchangeable pillars of Fate, while the horizontal weft threads are the chaotic choices of Luck.
Every Tide-Runner is a living conduit of probability. Their eyes swirl like shifting tidal pools, and their skin bears glowing silver Path-Marks that flare when fortune shifts in their favor. They are ambidextrous by nature and use each hand for different things. They the right hand representing Syric’s deliberate path, the left representing Aria’s intuitive chaos. Their central philosophy is simple: "One must respect the Design, but dance with the Chance."
Explore the Twin-Currents, A place where the land is restless and never stays still for long. Luck can be persuaded and Fate's threads sometimes show in unlikely places.
The legendary capital city built on stilts and shifting sandbars. Its layout is famously fluid, changing with the tides. Home to the Calculated Risk Casino and the Stock Exchange of Future Outcomes.
A town split across two islands connected by enchanted bridges. It is known for its gritty shipwrights who build vessels designed to harness chaotic winds and impossible ocean currents. Artists and musicians come to experience the ever-changing beauty of Aria's Embrace and the singing architecture, seeking inspiration from the chaos. Residential and business sections populate the islands.
A solitary, ancient lighthouse and monastery built on the most storm-lashed rock of the archipelago. Ascetic philosophers live here to study the unadulterated patterns of pure Fate beneath the noise of Luck.
A series of wave-markets where merchants trade in Whisper-Stones and Fate-Knots. If you have incurred a "Luck Debt" by hoarding too much good fortune, this is where you come to redistribute your wealth.
A coastal seaport on the border of Auralith. It suffers from an unnatural "Hollowing Hum," an anomaly caused by Echorin Vareth recklessly leaving a map-portal open, bleeding a decade of emotional debt into the town. It fate is recorded in, "The Drowning of Harrowmere." With more being translated. The entire text has been mysteriously 'scrambled' and is considered, what the Archivists call, 'Gobbily Gook' the language of the Earworm. Nonsensical sounding and terribly tedious to transcribe.
A twin village abandoned after a sleep-deprived, paranoid mob, driven mad by misused Varine Root, burned their own bakery to the ground. It remains a haunted, tragic monument to magical imbalance.
Tide-Runners do not cast fire or lightning; they negotiate with reality. They use Flow-Magic to guide movement, Change-Magic to shift emotional states, and Knot-Weaving to gently nudge an enemy's blade or ensure a message finds the one crack in a siege wall.
The Ultimate Taboo: To force a specific, unlikely outcome against a strongly established thread of fate is called "Making a Hard Pull." It is considered Fate-Theft. The punishment is brutal: the offender is magically rendered "Luck-Neutral," forever locked out of the chaotic symphony of their people to live a life of utter statistical mundanity.
For a Tide-Runner, trust is a spectrum of probability management:
A common Tide-Runner dismissal is: "I like the weather, but I'll keep my own clouds for now."
The Tide-Runners do not train animals with rigid discipline; they use motion, instinct, and chaos tolerance. Their military utilizes Salt-Hare Strikers—cliff-burrowing attack rabbits that are impossibly unpredictable. The legendary Old Five-Step, a five-legged rabbit, once outsmarted an entire Solari phalanx, collapsed three supply trenches, and retired a hero.
In the home, they keep Ficklefins, small bioluminescent octopus-like pets whose color shifts reflect the immediate probability density in the household (calm blues for stable Syric days; swirling reds for chaotic Aria days).
If a Serendipity-Broker makes you immensely wealthy, you don't pay them in gold alone. You incur a Luck Debt. You are now socially obligated to use your new-found influence to create opportunities for others in their name.
Hoarding good fortune is the greatest social sin. Conversely, someone who has suffered a great misfortune (a "Creditor of Fate") is often shown immense deference and given subtle advantages, as the community collectively works to "repay" the debt the universe owes them.
Tide-Runners do not trade in metal coins; they trade in future outcomes. Hover over the Fate-Knot below to untie the probability and reveal your fate. But beware the 50/50 rule: if your intent is clouded by deceit, the knot will backfire ironically.
An intricate braid of sea-silk holding raw probability. It is anchored by a drop of your blood.
[ Hover to untie the knot ]
Your intent was clouded by fear. The luck has turned volatile!
Instead of guaranteeing a safe voyage, the knot has summoned a localized storm directly over your rival's ship, which unfortunately happens to be carrying your payment.
These are weaves every Tide-Runner is born inherently knowing how to weave.
Minor Probability Nudging:
-Influencing simple outcomes in their immediate vicinity.Passive Good Fortune:
- Tide-Runners have a constant but minor air of good luck.Intuition for Omens and Signs:
-They can instinctually read basic omens in natural phenomena.Minor Weave-Reading:
-Minor divination allows a user to perceive the possibilities of fate affecting the near future.Weaves all Tide-Runners can learn but, in order to master, they have to study, practice and maintain discipline.
Pathweaving Minor:
-The ability to persuade the threads of fate to move in the weaver's favor.Luck Siphoning:
-Can deliberately drain luck from one person to give to themselves or another.Major Weave-Reading:
-Divination allowing foresight to possibilities of fate in the distant future.Chance Reversal:
- The ultimate form of luck manipulation. This power allows an individual to reverse the outcome of an event that has just occurred, changing a failed action into a success or a fatal blow into a near-miss.✧˚𓇼⋆。˚ 𖣓 ˚。⋆𓇼˚✧
Tide-Runner's magic is not without consequence. Forcing luck against a strongly established thread of fate. Syric doesn't like when mortals meddle with his threads. Minor changes are usually overlooked but those that mess with the Tapestry enough to distort it, Syric, is known to be ruthless with.

Here are historical archives of the tales and exploits of Wavaren Saltmere, first Agister's clerk and co-author of the charter of misdeed ferrets, Echorin's arrival at Port Hush, or the legendary exploits of Old Five-Step and the infamous feud with Solari.
Wavaren sat at the edge of the moonstone pier in Port Probability, absentmindedly tossing a Whisper-Stone from his left hand to his right. The tide was pulling hard against the stilts of the tavern below him, and the entire structure groaned, shifting a few feet to the west as it always did during the Nearburst moon.
He watched the merchant ship from Sunstone attempt to dock. The Solari captain was screaming at his crew, demanding perfect alignment with the mooring posts. Wavaren sighed, watching the golden Path-Marks on his forearm flare slightly. The Solari captain was demanding certainty from an ocean made of chaos. Wavaren didn't need to cast a weave to know what would happen next.
He gently nudged the probability of the mooring line—not breaking it, just increasing the likelihood that the knot was tied by the crew's most distracted sailor. A moment later, the line slipped, the ship lurched, and the pristine Solari captain tumbled backward into a crate of salted dart-eels.
Wavaren smiled, slipping the Whisper-Stone into his pocket. "May your currents find their own level," he murmured to the splashing captain.
